The EULETA External Speaker Training Series features speakers who are experts in their fields and external to EULETA. The talks are on topics which are connected to our work as legal English teachers and which help our continued professional development.
Our next external speaker training event will be on Wednesday 15th January 2025 from 6 pm to 7.30 pm CET.
Stephen Horowitz will be speaking about Legal English in US Law Schools: meeting the needs of international LLM students.
About Stephen Horowitz's talk:
With the dramatic growth of LLM programs at US law schools over the past 30 years, the field of Legal English in the US has also grown. Stephen will talk about this growth along with the challenges of helping LLM students from a wide range of countries and language backgrounds succeed in US law school. He will also share his own experience teaching at Georgetown Law, which at 400+ international LLM students is the largest such program of any law school in the US. And he will share perspectives on other US law schools and their approaches to Legal English. The discussion will also include advice for future applicants to US law schools and will additionally touch on some of the distinctions between Plain English and Legal English.
