The EULETA External Speaker Training Series features speakers who are experts in their fields and external to EULETA. The talks are on topics which are connected to our work as legal English teachers and which help our continued professional development.
Our next external speaker training event will be on Monday 6th October 2025 from 5.30 pm to 7.00 pm CEST.
Claire Séjean-Chazal will be speaking about Translating legal systems from all over the world.

Claire has a PhD in private law from Panthéon Assas University in Paris, France. As a Full Professor of private law, she teaches civil law at Sorbonne Paris Nord University (Paris 13). She is deputy secretary general of the Henri Capitant Association, and works to promote continental law and compare the legal systems of more than 50 countries.
Claire will be assisted in her talk by Anton Osminkin.
Anton is a jurilinguist, a Cambridge CELTA qualified teacher, and a legal translator/interpreter. He studied Law and Linguistics at the University of Caen, Normandy, and at the New Sorbonne University Paris III. His research area is comparative jurilinguistics (English, French, and Russian). He is a certified translator at the Court of Appeal of Versailles (English, Russian, and French) and now he works as a proofreader of judicial decisions (French and English) at the Court of Appeal of Paris. Anton is based in Paris, where he teaches legal English and Russian at ISIT Paris. Anton worked with Claire on the Henri Capitant Association project that she will describe in her talk.
About Claire Séjean-Chazal's talk:
Claire Séjean-Chazal will outline a project launched by the Henri Capitant Association based in Paris. The goal of the project is to translate the essential details of the legal systems of different countries from their respective languages into French, in order to share with French lawyers the most interesting features of legal landscapes from all over the world. However, since the Henri Capitant Association has a partner in the USA, Claire and Anton are supervising the further translation of these texts into English from a civil law perspective. They will share some of the noteworthy intercultural, multi-translation and linguistic aspects of this project.
